There are a few appliances in our homes that get a lot of frequent use but, as a result, can often take a real beating. You may not think about it but your oven, dishwasher and washing machine need frequent deep cleans to keep them running in tip top condition. Here are a few simple methods to clean your most-used home appliances to keep them working efficiently for years to come:
Washing Machine
Remember that your washing machine can be prone to mould, so make sure you always leave the door open to air the machine out after using it.
● Place a cup of white vinegar in the drum of the washing machine and a mixture of baking soda and water into the machine’s detergent container.
● Run the machine on a normal cycle at the hottest water setting.
● Use a clean sponge to rub around the opening of the washing machine to remove any stubborn mould or residue. Voila! One sparkling clean washing machine.
Dishwasher
To ensure your dishwasher is working at full capacity and cleaning your cutlery and crockery efficiently, you should be giving it a deep clean once a month.
● Remove any racks and utensil trays, then clear the machine of any food debris and build-up.
● Make a paste with baking soda and use a toothbrush to scrub around the drain and filter where food can get caught.
● Fill a dishwasher-safe cup with white vinegar and place it on the top rack of the dishwasher, then run a hot cycle.
● Alternatively you can sprinkle a cup of baking soda over the bottom of your dishwasher before running a cycle without any dishes.
Oven
Is your oven unsightly and smelly from burnt on grease? Try this safe and natural cleaning method!
● First, remove the oven racks and wash those separately in hot soapy water.
● Put three tablespoons of baking soda into a spray bottle and fill the rest with water. Shake to mix.
● Spray thoroughly onto the interior of your oven. Leave the mixture on overnight and in the morning simply wipe clean!
Microwave
Ever had food explode and splatter in the microwave? It can make quite the mess! Once you’ve wiped out and cleaned your microwave, there could still be some food residue leftover. Here’s a great tip for getting your microwave sparkling clean and smelling fresh:
● Fill a microwave safe bowl with a cup of water and add half a lemon, lime, orange, or a few tablespoons of vinegar.
● Run the microwave until the mixture bubbles and the window gets steamy.
