Chopped BBQ Fundraiser: A Delicious Success!
The Performance Realty team was honoured to stand alongside Scotiabank as the Title Sponsor at this past weekend’s “Celebrity Chopped Barbecue Fundraiser” charity event. Located at the beautiful Cornwall Golf and Country Club, the event united local community members, donors, and chefs in Cornwall’s own version of the hit television show “Chopped”. This fun community event was created to raise money and awareness for the Maison Baldwin House Women’s Shelter.
The Maison Baldwin House has been a saviour in the Cornwall community for over 35 years, serving as an emergency shelter for women and children facing domestic violence. The support raised through this local event went directly to supporting these families as they transition from violent and abusive homes toward safe, secure, and positive lives.
On Friday night, six local celebrities – Cornwall CAO Maureen Adams, St. Lawrence College Cornwall Campus Dean Deb Stava, former NHL player Jesse Winchester, former Team Canada Women’s Hockey Olympian Lori Dupuis, Seaway Food Festival Director Sebastien Manigat and radio personality Dan Allaire – gathered together in what resulted in an epic barbecuing battle. Each contestant was challenged to concoct an appetizer, entree, and dessert using a surprise mystery ingredient, the only hint being that it was a common ingredient at the Baldwin House. Local chefs judged each dish, hand-picking the most delicious (and not so delectable) creations.
The Shelter Foundation has raised over $22 million and created a safe haven for over 30,000 women and children since 1998. The issue of violence against women is an issue near and dear to the hearts of many of our Realtors®, clients and community members. It is with great pride and joy that many Realtors® at Royal LePage Performance Realty donate a portion of their commission on each sale to Baldwin House, and/or donate their time and support to the various phases of planning and hosting these charitable events.
Join our team in our next great local initiative – the annual charity Garage Sale. All funds collected at this annual event go directly into Royal LePage Shelter Foundation.
