The team at Royal LePage Performance Realty in Ottawa spent the fall giving gifts and receiving thanks from women and children across the nation’s capital. Each month, an outstanding cheque was presented to one of Ottawa’s most in-need women’s shelters. These cheque presentations serve as a reminder that while domestic violence and abuse against women and children continue to plague our city, there is a strong movement of support (both financially and emotionally) to help women and children overcome the struggles they face with domestic abuse.
Because of our Realtors’ efforts to support the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation, the monthly sales meetings at Royal LePage offices across the Ottawa region are far different than one would expect. Amongst conversations about reaching projections and analyses of the current real estate market, our incredible Ottawa Realtors® stand proud as they present donation cheques to local shelters. Learn more about this season’s cheque presentations below:
Baldwin House
On September 7th, the members of the Cornwall Royal LePage team gathered together to celebrate present a cheque for $10,355.40 to Laura Ellam, Volunteer Coordinator at Baldwin House. Baldwin House is an emergency shelter located in Cornwall that has provided a safe haven from domestic abuse for women and their children for over 35 years. The shelter has ten beds and a 24 hour crisis line to support women and children in their transition from violence to safety.
Nelson House
On October 4th at Royal LePage Bank Street sales meeting, the team of Realtors® were honoured to present a cheque for $27,374.60 to Keri Lewis, the Executive Director of Nelson House. Thanks to the donations provided thus far to Nelson House, a part-time volunteer and fundraising coordinator has been hired. This has enabled Nelson house to organize much needed relief programs for the women in their shelter, such as yoga classes, cooking and healthy eating. Nelson House is currently working with local politicians to look for funding to invest in a new shelter with double the amount of rooms.
Maison d’amitié
On October 11th $30,500 was presented to Maison d’amitié at the Canoetek location. Maison d’amitié is a celebrated not-for-profit organization that has been supporting a multicultural clientele facing violence since 1976. Each year, 60-80 women and 65-80 children are welcomed by the supportive community at Maison d’amitié. It is the sole francophone shelter in the Ottawa region and largest francophone shelter in all of Ontario, and provides our community with everything from accommodations to interventions, support, follow-up, a help-line, and awareness campaigns. Performance realty is honoured to support this incredible cause.
Eastern Ottawa Resource Centre (EORC)
On November 1st $3,500 was presented to the Eastern Ottawa Resource Centre at the Orleans location. There will be another cheque presentation at our Orleans sales meeting, November 15th. This year will mark the first time we will be handing over a cheque ($3500) to the Eastern Ottawa Resource Centre. The EORC provides support to women who are experiencing violence by offering emergency shelter support, advocacy & accompaniment, among many other community services.
