April 2014 Winners: Jan and Glenn
“Jan and her husband, Glenn, are the driving force behind our very close-knit street. Most of our neighbours have lived here for at least 30 years and are elderly. Jan regularly organizes showers, life event celebrations and welcome-to-the-neighbourhood parties. In the winter, Jan spearheads a monthly Saturday breakfast for the residents of our street on the second Saturday of every month to which everyone looks forward. As a result, we all know who is away, ill or facing challenges, which allows us to support one another. Jan and Glenn are the first to step up to lend a helping hand for anyone who needs it. It is primarily because of Jan that I boast about having the best neighbours ever and that we all enjoy each other’s company and ongoing support. The neighbourhood would not be the same without Jan. Rivershore Crescent in Beaconhill North is a desirable street on which to live. However, if buyers knew the extent to which the neighbourly atmosphere enhances life here, the real estate values would soar even higher than they already are!”
March 2014 Winners: Ray and Anne
“Ray and Anne have lived across from my parents’ home for years, during which time all of them regularly helped one another with everything from house sitting to snow clearing. My father recently underwent a very intense surgical procedure to remove a mass from his pancreas and was in the hospital recovering for two weeks. During that time, Ray and Anne went above and beyond to extend a helping hand to my mother in his absence. He returned home last week and was surprised not only with a beautiful floral arrangement but also with the immense support. Anne and Ray called regularly to check in and make sure that everything was going smoothly, always making themselves available in case my father had any questions or concerns. We are so fortunate to have such caring, supportive neighbours in this difficult time and would like to use this opportunity to extend our gratitude.”
