By now many Ottawans are aware of Minto’s condominium developments at Lansdowne in the Glebe. The Glebe is one of the city’s most sought-after neighbourhoods – which may be why some residents have had concerns that the new buildings, the Vibe and The Rideau, would be unwelcome additions to the community. However, for both future and current residents, the proposed site offers more than just condos.
A primary goal of the project is to contribute to the sense of community that has long been a central feature of the Glebe, and the buildingsare part of a planned rejuvenation for the entire Lansdowne Park area. The rejuvenation has been opposed by some residents of the Glebe and the surrounding neighbourhoods, who believethat building a shopping complex and new condos may deter from the Glebe’s tree-lined streets, independent restaurants and retailers, and natural green spaces.
Others agree that the rejuvenation project will in fact do the opposite, and connect the existing Glebe community with a modern urban centre to allow the whole neighbourhood to flourish in the years ahead. Amenities planned in and around the area include shopping boutiques, entertainment venues, and restaurants, all within walking distance to both condo towers. The prime location on Bank Street also allows for easy accessibility to the existing amenities of the Glebe, including schools, churches, parks, and shopping – all without needing to own a vehicle. Besides being located on twoOcTranspo bus routes, the neighbourhood is also near pedestrian and bicycling paths along the scenic Rideau Canal.
The towers themselves are designed with green living in mind. From high-efficiency heating and ventilation systems, to environment-friendly flooring and paints, the Vibe and The Rideau offer their future residents modern comfort with the additional benefit of yearly savings on energy bills. Even the parking garage will be equipped to allow for the future installation of car-charging stations to service those who choose to drive electric vehicles. Minto at Lansdowne’s own “green team” has designed both buildings to exceed building code energy efficiency requirements by over 35%.
The Vibe is a 13 storey building with 70 proposed suites, while The Rideau is to offer 155 units on 20 storeys. Both offer suites with varying style and size options, and the prices range from about $300,000 to over $550,000, depending on which building you choose to live in and the layout of your suite. For a one bedroom + den unit in the Vibe, with access to a private 40 square foot balcony, suites start around $309,900. You may be paying up to $710,900 for a two bedroom + den in The Rideau, which includes 88 square feet of outdoor living space. Both buildings also include access to full on-site amenities as well, including lounges, concierge services, entertainment rooms and terraces, and more.
Each building offers unique features, but both provide the comforts of modern, green lifestyles within walking distance to all the conveniences of the Glebe. We look forward to the transformation that is to come out of the Lansdowne rejuvenation project and hope that the addition to the neighbourhood provides several exciting new benefits to all Glebe residents.
