At Performance Realty we’ve spent the past few weeks preparing for our upcoming Luncheon and Auction for the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation. This is an annual event that we hold every year at our Bank Street branch location, offering a complimentary lunch before we start the bidding for the impressive auction items that are kindly donated by clients, sales representatives, staff, family, and friends. Funds from the auction are directed towards the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation.
For those who don’t already know about the Shelter Foundation, the charitable organization is dedicated exclusively to funding women’s shelters and violence prevention programs. Operated nationwide by Royal LePage Canada, the Shelter Foundation partners with local Royal LePage brokerages across the country to donate time, funds, and efforts towards awareness and fundraising for local women’s shelters. In Ottawa and Cornwall, Performance Realty is proud to support several local women’s shelters.
In mid-October we had the pleasure of presenting a $14,000 cheque to Nelson House, a 15-bed residence which serves an average of 150 women and children per year. Executive Director Mary Montgomery was on hand to accept the cheque and offer some insight into how the donations can help benefit their women’s shelter. While government funding covers the basics of living and structural expenses, donations such as the one made by us this October contribute to additional women’s and children’s programs to help make their lives more comfortable. For instance, the donation Performance Realty made to Nelson House last year helped to pay for a well-needed generator for the residence, among other things.
Community Support for Ottawa Women’s Shelters
Also in October, the Cornwall branch of Performance Realty presented a cheque to local shelter Baldwin House for $4379.75 which was raised by our Cornwall agents during last May’s Garage Sale for Shelter, with Scotiabank donating another $3500.00 to the cause. The third local shelter to receive a donation cheque in October was Maison d’amitie, which runs two emergency shelters for women and children of violence, each with a 15-17 bed capacity.
Cecile Coderre, President of the Board for Maison d’amitie, and Anne Butler, Vice-President of the Board, received the $28,000 cheque and helped to explain some of the unique challenges Maison d’amitie has faced in the past year. With a brand new board of 12 dedicated members from the community, and a large remediation job nearly completed for major flooding in one of their residences, Maison d’amitie can now look forward to continuing to make a difference in the community.
Performance Realty is pleased to offer assistance to the local women’s and children’s shelters which help so many members of our communities. Extra funding from the community can go a long way to helping provide some additional comforts to those who are escaping the cycle of violence. We’re looking forward to this year’s Luncheon and Auction in support of the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation, and we hope to see you there!
