If you’ve moved house before, you know things can get a little hectic and muddled for a few days! Before you’ve unpacked, nothing is where it needs to be and you can feel a little out of sorts. If you have a big move coming up, here are a few helpful tips to help you create some sense of order in the chaos and feel at home right away:
Make the bed
You’ll need somewhere to sleep on your first night in your new home, so start with making the bed. You might want to do this job first: if you get carried away unpacking, by the time you want to sleep you’ll be too exhausted to make the bed!
Clean, if needed
More than likely your home was cleaned before you moved in, but you may want to go over things yourself. Before you start unpacking and building furniture, go from room to room to see if there were any areas that were missed.
Sort boxes by room
Make sure each room is only filled with boxes of things that are supposed to be there! That way, once you start unpacking, you won’t be travelling from room to room to put things away.
Unpack the important items
Things that you use on a daily basis should be unpacked straight away as you’ll need these items first! These could include items such as a coffee maker, hairdryer, towels, or any toiletries.
Introduce yourself to neighbours
Everybody wants to get along well with their neighbours, so start things off on the right foot by introducing yourself if you bump into any while you’re moving.
Keep things quiet at night
Though you’re likely eager to settle in right away, it’s not a good idea to start banging things around, putting up pictures on the walls, or moving furniture late into the evening. Be conscious of the fact that this is just a normal day for your neighbours and keep the noise levels low after sundown.
Order takeout!
After all that moving, you’ll be hungry. Instead of searching through boxes to unpack all your kitchen supplies, treat yourself and your family to takeout and enjoy your new home!
