With just ten days left before Christmas, the countdown to the holidays is officially on! One of the best parts of the holiday season is taking the decorations out from storage and transforming your home into a cozy winter wonderland. Whether you live in a two-storey detached house or a condo apartment, decorating your home for the holidays is the perfect way to get in the Christmas spirit and make your house feel more homey.
Last week we offered a few open house tips for those who are selling their home this holiday season, and this week we’re following up with a few additional Christmas decor tips that anyone can try out. There are countless ways you can dress your home up for the holidays while sticking to a budget, whether you’re decorating every room in a large home or you want to focus on just one room or a smaller space.
At Performance Realty, the staff at each of our branch locations have been working towards creating a cozy Christmas atmosphere in our offices! Using a combination of inexpensive decorations and DIY creativity, they have transformed our offices into festive holiday spaces that feel like a home away from home! Take a look at some photos below.
DIY Paper Snowflakes
Paper snowflakes are an easy and inexpensive way to add instant holiday charm to your home! You can cut snowflake patterns from any type of paper you choose, allowing for endless variety and the ability to easily match your snowflakes to your home’s existing decor. Our Cornwall branch used paper snowflakes suspended from the ceiling to create a dreamy winter scene.
At our Pretoria office, the staff added some 3D paper snowflakes to a garland at front reception. This is one of many ways you can easily dress up a plain Christmas garland. If you don’t have indoor lights for your garland, other decorations might include berries, holly, ribbon, or large Christmas bows. Any garland can easily be decorated to suit your tastes and match other decorations in your home.
Paper snowflakes are also a great Christmas craft for kids! You can find a tutorial for 3D paper snowflakes here.
Wrap Empty Boxes
We don’t have too many actual gifts for under the trees in our offices, so we use empty boxes to provide the look of Christmas presents instead. Our Canotek office took the decorations a step further by adding fun holiday stuffed animals to the gifts beneath the tree!
While the faux gifts easily create a “Christmas-y” feel under the tree, they can easily be placed anywhere in your home where you’d like to add an understated decoration, like a guest room or an entranceway. All you need is a few boxes in varying sizes, gift wrap, and ribbon to create your fake presents! This is also another great way to get kids involved and teach them how to wrap a gift for the holidays. You can use any paper you like to match your holiday theme or your home’s decor.
Add Ornaments to Vases
One of the most popular and most simple ways to instantly add Christmas charm to your home is to fill an empty vase with ornaments. If you don’t have an empty vase to use, you can also use mason jars, hurricane jars, or even oversized glasses. Simply add the ornaments you have leftover from decorating your Christmas tree, tie the top with a festive ribbon, and you’re done!
You can also consider adding battery-operated tealights or a small string of Christmas lights to your glass jar for an added effect. The soft glow of the lights reflecting off the ornaments is a sure way to make your holiday display stand out.
Mix and Match
If you have some time to spend on a weekend afternoon, consider making your own holiday decorations from craft supplies or items you pick up at the dollar store. Small wooden signs with Christmas phrases already painted to them can be a great starting point for inspiration towards a DIY Christmas craft. Consider painting letters onto wooden blocks and adding them to a store bought decoration you already own, or buy a plain wreath from a craft store and use a hot glue gun to add your own custom decorations.
